This week, Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuael Ax, and Leonidas Kavakos take a pause to enjoy the view from No. 1 on the Classical Chartz. Il Volo\u2019s Ad Astra<\/strong> climbs from No. 5 to challenge the album at the No. 2 position.<\/p>\n

Two virtuosos on one record \u2014 that\u2019s the premise of Daniil Trifonov, Sergei Babayan: Rachmaninoff For Two<\/strong>. The release on the Deutsche Grammophon label makes a big jump from 12 up to the No. 3 spot this week. The recording captures a concert with the two piano giants presented to celebrate the composer\u2019s 150th birthday in 2023 at the Vienna Konzerthaus. Rachmaninoff wrote two Suites for two pianos, both of which are included here, along with a two-piano version of the Symphonic Dances. Armenian pianist Sergei Babayan comments, \u201cWhen he writes for two players and two pianos, we mortals have the chance to experience how he played on just one piano.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hauser’s Classic II<\/strong> breaks into the Classical Chartz with a bang, landing at No. 7 in the album\u2019s debut week after its release on April 19. Hauser, aka Stjepan Hauser, has become a global sensation, bringing the cello to new music fans worldwide. This album builds on the success of 2020\u2019s Classic, and its premise: rearranging orchestral masterpieces to spotlight the cello. Fans came along for the ride, and Hauser is back with an all-new set of rearranged works, performed with the London Symphony Orchestra with conductor Robert Ziegler. It includes blockbusters like Mozart\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 23, and Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2, among 18 tracks. Hauser will be touring in support of the album this spring and summer, and is set to make a stop at Toronto\u2019s Massey Hall<\/strong> on June 8<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
