Canadian Heritage has announced a $32 million increase in funding for the Canada Music Fund. Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage, made the announcement at the JUNO Awards<\/a> gala on March 24.<\/p>\n

The federal monies will be delivered over two years\/seasons, 2024-25 and 2025-26, with a view to supporting Canadian music creators.<\/p>\n

The Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage<\/strong> commented in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMusic is a unifying force that brings us together and makes our stories resonate worldwide. Today, we\u2019re delivering on a commitment we made to Canadians to better support this country\u2019s music sector and increase our investments in the Canada Music Fund. This investment is essential to maintain the positive impact of the Canada Music Fund, helping new and existing artists or groups to break through in the modern music environment. Through our support, we’re laying the foundation for a thriving and strong music sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Canada Music Fund<\/strong> delivers funding for about 5,000 projects each year through FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings,\u00a0a public\/private partnership) and Musicaction (a French-language public\/private partnership).<\/p>\n

Funding is available for activities that help Canadian artists develop their talent, including promotions, touring, and others, as well as for organizations like record companies that support them.<\/p>\n

The move was applauded across the industry as a good start towards helping Canadian artists in difficult times, when the traditional sources of revenue are being eroded.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis funding is a good start in providing the Canadian music industry with the resources to continue to support the songs we hear daily on streaming services, in video games, movies and television shows. Canada\u2019s music publishers are thankful to have the opportunity to continue to invest in Canadian songwriters,\u201d said Margaret McGuffin,<\/strong> Music Publishers Canada CEO in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The move follows a recent call by major stakeholders in the Canadian music industry for increased funding. On March 1, 2024, a collective of music associations and organizations published an open letter<\/a> urging the federal government to follow through on previous statements on funding.<\/p>\n
