The position itself is newly created.<\/p>\n<p>Podger will direct three mainstage programs in 2024\/25, as well as taking the ensemble on a tour of Asia \u2014 the first for Tafelmusik since 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Artistic Co-Directors <strong>Brandon Chui<\/strong>, <strong>Dominic Teresi<\/strong>, and <strong>Cristina Zacharias<\/strong> have curated a line-up of ten concerts in collaboration with Choir Director Ivars Taurins. Tafelmusik will perform at Jeanne Lamon Hall, Trinity-St. Paul\u2019s Centre, and Koerner Hall, along with a yearly return to Massey Hall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTafelmusik\u2019s 2024\/25 season promises a feast of incredible performances, starting with the passion and vitality of our new Principal Guest Director, Rachel Podger, and ending with the soul-stirring charisma of soprano Samuel Mari\u00f1o,\u201d says <strong>Cristina Zacharias<\/strong>, on behalf of Tafelmusik\u2019s Artistic Co-Directors. \u201cPlanning this season has once again reminded us of our incredible good fortune in having an audience as eager for these concerts as we are. The opportunity for a closer relationship with an ensemble I have admired for so many years is a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Returning Guest Artists<\/h3>\n<p>Three audience favourites return to share the stage with Tafelmusik.<\/p>\n<h4>Amandine Beyer | Feast for the Senses: Lalande &amp; Rameau<\/h4>\n<p>Oct 18\u201320, 2024, Jeanne Lamon Hall<\/p>\n<p>French violinist Amandine Beyer first performed with Tafelmusik several years ago. She returns with a program with a distinctly French flavour. That includes: Lalande\u2019s Symphonie pour le souper du roi, a suite of dances by Rameau, Muffat\u2019s musical bouquets \u201cGraditudo\u201d (Gratitude) and \u201cLaeta Poesis\u201d (Joyful Poetry), and chamber music by \u00c9lisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre. The latter was a harpsichordist, famous in her own day and known via her musical talent by King Louis XIV.<\/p>\n<h4>Alfredo Bernardini | Triple Espresso: Bach, Handel and Fasch<\/h4>\n<p>Feb 21\u201323, 2025, Jeanne Lamon Hall<\/p>\n<p>Italian oboist Alfredo Bernardini returns to Toronto with music by Bach and his contemporaries. That includes: Tafelmusik\u2019s premiere performance of the Concerto in B-flat Major for three violins and three oboes by Telemann, Suite in G Minor for three oboes by Fasch, Suite in D Major by Bach, and Handel\u2019s Oboe Concerto in G Minor.<\/p>\n<h4>Samuel Mari\u00f1o at the Opera: Bologne &amp; Mozart<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">May 23\u201325, 2025, Koerner Hall<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a follow up to his sensational debut with Tafelmusik in 2023, male <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2023\/04\/30\/scrutiny-soprano-samuel-marino-flies-high-tafelmusik\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">soprano Samuel Mari\u00f1o<\/a> returns with his signature emotional style in an eclectic program. It includes: excerpts from L\u2019Amant anonyme by Joseph Bologne, Gluck\u2019s , \u201cChe faro\u2019 senza Euridice\u201d from Orfeo ed Euridice, and virtuoso arias from operas by Haydn, Mozart, and Salieri. Orchestral music will be directed by Tafelmusik\u2019s Julia Wedman<\/p>\n<h3>New To Tafelmusik<\/h3>\n<h4>Milo\u0161 Valent and Jan Rokyta | Baroque and Folk: Purcell to Poland<\/h4>\n<p>March 7\u20139, 2025, Jeanne Lamon Hall<\/p>\n<p>Slovakian violinist Milo\u0161 Valent and Czech multi-instrumental virtuoso Jan Rokyta bring diverse musical traditions together, joined by Toronto percussionist Naghmeh Farahmand and the orchestra. The music will explore the ways that Ashkenazy, Polish, Roma, Scottish, and Turkish folk music traditions influenced composers who are now considered the giants of the baroque, such as Telemann, Purcell and Vivaldi.<\/p>\n<h2>Tafelmusik Chamber Choir (Ivars Taurins, conductor)<\/h2>\n<h3>Bach\u2019s Christmas Oratorio<\/h3>\n<p>Nov. 22\u201324, 2024, Jeanne Lamon Hall<\/p>\n<p>Along with the choir, vocal soloists making their Tafelmusik debuts are H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Brunet, soprano; Cecilia Duarte, mezzo-soprano; and Jesse Blumberg, baritone. English tenor Charles Daniels sings the role of the Evangelist.<\/p>\n<h3>Handel\u2019s Messiah<\/h3>\n<p>Dec. 20 &amp; 21, 2024, Koerner Hall<\/p>\n<p>Tafelmusik\u2019s Messiah is performed in the style and spirit of Handel\u2019s own productions. Soloists include: soprano Myriam Leblanc; mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szab\u00f3; tenor Jacob Perry; and bass-baritone Philippe Sly.<\/p>\n<h3>Sing-Along Messiah<\/h3>\n<p>Dec 22, 2024 Massey Hall<\/p>\n<p>The Sing-Along Messiah returns after a sold-out house in 2023. G.F. Handel directs the choir (including audience), with guests soloists to add their sparkle.<\/p>\n<h3>Choral Splendours: Bach &amp; Zelenka<\/h3>\n<p>Mar. 28\u201330, 2025<\/p>\n<p>J.S. Bach and fellow composer Jan Dismas Zelenka were said to be friends. This concert brings together their work, including lesser-known Lutheran cantatas by Bach, alongside Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis, Zelenka\u2019s Catholic mass. The performance features Montr\u00e9al soprano Myriam Leblanc in Zelenka\u2019s mass, and an aria from Bach\u2019s Cantata 150.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mozart Violin Concerto, K.207: Adagio | Rachel Podger | Tafelmusik (March 2023):<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TnAO9_kU8x8?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h2>Touring, Recording &amp; More<\/h2>\n<p>Led by Principal Guest Director Rachel Podger, Tafelmusik will present concerts and masterclasses in <strong>South Korea<\/strong> from October 22 to November 11, 2024. It will be the first Asian tour for the ensemble since 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Tafelmusik\u2019s <strong>first recording<\/strong> with Rachel Podger as guest director and violin soloist will be released in the fall of 2024. The album will include Haydn\u2019s Symphony no. 43, \u201cMercury\u201d and Symphony no. 49, \u201cLa Passione.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tafelmusik\u2019s <strong>Baroque Summer Institute<\/strong> will take place from June 15\u201328, 2025.
