The\u00a0Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences\u00a0(CARAS) has announced the nominees for\u00a0The\u00a053rd Annual JUNO Awards. The JUNO Awards ceremonies open March 23<\/strong>, with the Awards broadcast on March 24, 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the non-classical front, Charlotte Cardin leads with six nominations,\u00a0followed by Daniel Caesar and TALK follow at five each. Within the categories devoted to classical music, Barbara Hannigan<\/strong>, Marc-Andr\u00e9 Hamelin<\/strong>, and James Ehnes<\/strong> fall into the no-surprises-there slot.<\/p>\n

Conductor Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin<\/strong>, fresh off a GRAMMY win, is nominated for two JUNOs for his work, both with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Orchestre M\u00e9tropolitain. The Album of the Year\/Large Ensemble, however, is crowded with fellow Montr\u00e9alais, including conductor Rafael Payare<\/strong> and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montr\u00e9al with their Mahler 5 (the first release on their multi-year deal with Pentatone<\/a>), Jacques Lacombe<\/strong> and the Orchestre classique de Montr\u00e9al with Maxime Goulet: Symphonie de la temp\u00eate de verglas, and the Ensemble Contemporain de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> with Cryptid Ensemble, and their recording of Bekah Simms\u2019 Bestiaries.<\/p>\n

Perhaps, next year, TSO fans<\/a> can hope to break the Montr\u00e9al stranglehold…?<\/p>\n

More than classical…<\/h3>\n

Perhaps the biggest news for fans of modern neoclassical music is the crossover of pianist\/composer Alexandra Str\u00e9liski<\/strong>\u2019s phenomenally successful N\u00e9o-Romance<\/a>, which is nominated in two categories entirely outside the genre of classical music.<\/p>\n
