SUMMARY:Toronto Symphony Orchestra | Mendelssohn’s Violin
DESCRIPTION:A cornerstone of the repertoire\, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto is a passionate and technically mesmerizing display of the instrument’s capabilities. It soars in the hands of the gifted Randall Goosby\, a former student of Itzhak Perlman who\, at 13\, was the youngest winner of the Sphinx Competition. The beloved work is complemented by a delightfully effervescent Divertimento for String Orchestra composed by Bartók in just 15 days\, along with Mozart’s popular “Prague” Symphony\, and the World Première of a work by Métis composer Ian Cusson\, created in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

SUMMARY:North York Concert Orchestra/Pax Christi Chorale | Carmina Burana
DESCRIPTION:Fate\, love\, desire\, temptation\, struggle\, spiritual fulfillment. \nTimeless storytelling. Captivating music. \nPresented in a partnership between Pax Christi Chorale and North York Concert Orchestra. \nComposed in 1937\, Carmina Burana remains one of the most popular pieces of the choral music repertoire. Consisting of 24 movements\, with texts taken from a collection of medieval poems\, the work is a deeply emotional and thought-provoking exploration of fate\, love\, and the human condition. Through its powerful music and evocative texts\, Carmina Burana invites listeners to reflect on the universal themes and experiences that shape our lives\, reminding us of the beauty\, transience\, and vulnerability inherent in our existence. \nThe concert will also include Nänie by Johannes Brahms and Bacchanale (from Samson & Delilah) by Camille Saint-Saëns. Pax Christi Chorale’s Artistic Director Elaine Choi will conduct the combined choir and orchestra in Nänie\, while NYCO’s Music Director Rafael Luz will conduct Carmina Burana. Joining us for this performance are Emily Rocha (soprano)\, Nicholas Nicolaidis (tenor) and Dion Mazerolle (baritone). \nRunning time approximately 2 hours\, including intermission.
