Royal Conservatory | ARC Ensemble: Marc Neikrug’s A Song by Mahler
A celebrated soprano, famous for her rendition of Mahler’s love song, Liebst du um Schönheit, develops early-onset Alzheimer’s. The drama follows her (mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano) and her pianist/husband (baritone Ryan Bradford) as they confront their new reality. The tragic end-result resolves in a new, elevated understanding of their love. This one act opera, in its Canadian premiere, features an ensemble of string quartet, piano, and clarinet, all of whom are members of The Royal Conservatory’s renowned ARC Ensemble.
