SUMMARY:Toronto Symphony Orchestra | Brilliant Bartók
DESCRIPTION:Enter the Hungarian folk-inspired world of Béla Bartók in this live-recorded performance. The ballet score to The Miraculous Mandarin\, with its alluring melodies and seductive rhythms\, tells a saucy tale of desire and intrigue\, while his Concerto for Orchestra is an electrifying display of orchestral brilliance. Plus\, a work by TSO Composer Advisor Emilie LeBel depicts the interconnectedness of natural elements and their enduring presence throughout history. \nGustavo Gimeno\, conductor\nToronto Mendelssohn Choir / Jean-Sébastien Vallée\, TMC Artistic Director \nProgram \nBartók: Concerto for Orchestra\nEmilie LeBel: the sediments – TSO Commission\nBartók: The Miraculous Mandarin

SUMMARY:West End Music | West End Micro Music Festival: Ecstatic Voices
DESCRIPTION:ECSTATIC VOICES envisions a new context for the eight-voice choir. Featuring bold\, sensual works for voices — Cassandra Miller’s The City\, Full of People\, Caroline Shaw’s Pulitzer Prize winning Partita for 8 Voices\, Luciano Berio’s Cries of London\, and Thomas Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah — this performance subverts expectation for the choir; bending\, twisting\, and mutating historical forms into new shapes and gestures. \nPunctuating the performance is Claude Vivier’s Cinq Chansons pour Percussion\, featuring virtuso percussionist Aiyun Huang. In dialogue with the vocal works\, these wordless songs evoke an otherworldly ecstasy. \nRepertoire\nCassandra Miller – The City\, Full of People\nCaroline Shaw – Partita for 8 Voices\nLuciano Berio – The Cries of London\nThomas Tallis – Lamentations of Jeremiah\nClaude Vivier – Cinq Chansons pour Percussion \nArtists\nAiyun Huang\, percussion\nSydney Baedke\, voice 1\nReilly Nelson\, voice 2\nDanika Lorèn\, voice 3\nWhitney O’Hearn\, voice 4\nMarcel d’Entrement\, voice 5\nElias Theocharidis\, voice 6\nBruno Roy\, voice 7\nGraham Robinson\, voice 8\nSimon Rivard\, conductor
