DESCRIPTION:Legendary Grammy-winner Jason Vieaux is “among the elite of today’s classical guitarists” (Gramophone) and is perhaps “the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation” (NPR). From New York’s Lincoln Center to Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and the Seoul Arts Center\, Jason Vieaux has cemented his reputation as an artist of brilliance and uncompromised mastery. Cited for his “eloquent and vibrant performances” on disc (Gramophone Magazine) he is hailed as “virtuosic\, flamboyant\, dashing and\, sometimes ineffably lyrical” (New York Times) on stage. \nSought-after for his extensive concerto repertoire\, Vieaux tours regularly and performs with a long list of orchestras. Vieaux enjoys ongoing collaborations with the Escher String Quartet\, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke\, violinist Anne Akiko Meyers\, harpist Yolanda Kondonassis\, accordion/bandoneon virtuoso Julien Labro\, and saxophone virtuoso Timothy McAllister. Vieaux recorded Pat Metheny’s “Four Paths of Light” for Metheny’s 2021 album “Road to the Sun” (a song Metheny dedicated to Vieaux). Vieaux will be performing movements 1 and 2 from “Four Paths…” along with some Scarlatti\, Bach\, Agustin Barrios\, Jorge Morel\, Fernando Bustamante\, and a piece by Vieaux called “Home.” His extensive discography includes “Bach Volume 2: Works for Violin\,” released on Azica in 2022 to rave reviews\, and won the 2014 Best Instrumental Classical Solo Grammy Award for “Play.”

(Issue 131\, The Living Tradition) \nAt their Chamberfest debut\, Skye Consort & Emma Björling will perform their “trans-Atlantic chamber folk” with arrangements of songs and tunes from Sweden\, Norway\, Ireland\, Scotland\, England\, Québec\, Acadia\, and the USA\, bringing old stories\, melodies\, and themes back to life in a contemporary musical setting. \nAbout their album Skye Consort & Emma Björling\, The Whole Note’s Barry Livingston says that “the songs are beautifully arranged\, and Björling’s vocals are fully integrated into the ensemble\, giving the music the feel of a true collaboration. One of the best folk recordings of 2019.” \nEmma Björling\, award-winning Swedish singer\, composer\, and arranger\, met Alex Kehler (fiddle\, nyckelharpa)\, Amanda Keesmaat (cello)\, and Seán Dagher (cittern/bouzouki\, banjo) during a La Nef project in Montréal in October 2017 and “thanks to” Emma’s cancelled flight and their mutual love for each other’s celebrated musicianship\, the Skye Consort & Emma Björling partnership was born. \nWith voice\, fiddle\, nyckelharpa\, cello\, bouzouki\, banjo\, and percussion\, each musician brings their unique slant to these musical traditions to create a program of whirling polskas\, groovy reels\, passionate love songs\, breathtaking hymns\, and original compositions.
