SUMMARY:Ottawa Chamberfest | Constantinople: Da Vinci’s Bridge
DESCRIPTION:500 years after Da Vinci’s death\, Constantinople presents a musical reconstruction of Da Vinci’s Bridge\, creating – with music – the bridge Leonardo Da Vinci designed for the city of Constantinople that was never built. Connecting East and West\, with Persia and the Ottoman Empire on one side and Renaissance Italy on the other\, the programme draws musical works from 16th- and 17th-century manuscripts found in the national libraries of Istanbul and Florence. \nConstantinople aims to encourage cross-cultural music making and exchanges among artists from around the world. Since its founding\, the ensemble promotes the creation of new works that include musical elements of diverse musical traditions. Says Constantinople\, “The territory to explore is infinite…we make migration and the mixing of cultures our territory.” Tenor Marco Beasley\, a leading figure in Renaissance music\, joins Constantinople’s soloists\, under the direction of Kiya Tabassian\, to immerse us in the imaginary and audacious world of Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings.

SUMMARY:Ottawa Chamberfest | Collectif9: RITUÆLS
DESCRIPTION:“A sensory landscape that evokes timelessness… the real\, the important.” (Pan M 360) \nMontreal string nonet collectif9 presents Rituæls\, a grand\, deliberate artistic ceremony of a concert bringing together works dating from the Middle Ages to the 21st century with music by Hildegard von Bingen\, Arvo Pärt\, Michael Tippett\, Nicole Lizée\, Bryce Dessner\, and Jocelyn Morlock. Throughout the show\, the musicians occupy several spaces in a way that echoes the grandeur and the depth of the pieces on the program. The lighting\, scenography and staging help create a succession of moments that transport the audience and invite contemplation\, connection\, and introspection. Featuring a gripping performance by Stacey Désilier (choreography and dance). \nBy drawing attention to the space the musicians occupy with technical theatrical elements and dance\, RITUÆLS “delicately questions our place in the universe and in relation to our environment. The performance of the charismatic Stacey Désilier (dance) accompanies us through the concert like a supreme presence\, complementing this imagery.” \ncollectif9 combines the power of an orchestra with the agility of a chamber ensemble. Known for their innovative programming and approach to chamber music\, the Juno-nominated Montreal string ensemble operates on the premise that a change of context can influence communication and experience and is at the vanguard\, redefining the presentation of classical music. Since their 2011 debut\, collectif9 has presented numerous concerts across North America\, Europe\, and Asia\, performing “with an infectious energy and vigour that grabs an audience’s attention” (The WholeNote).
