SUMMARY:Bound for Banff Benefit Concert
DESCRIPTION:Maeve Palmer (soprano)\, Hillary Tufford (mezzo-soprano)\, and Christian Matta (Tenor) are excited to be going to The Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity to participate in the prestigious “Interplay” workshop\, designed for professional artists across disciplines\, to explore and develop new chamber works. They will be working on The Handmaid’s Tale (Ruders/Bentley)\, works by Canadian composer Al-Zand and a reimagining of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. Unfortunately\, this workshop is no longer fully funded for the singing artists. The artists have organized a benefit concert\, “Bound for Banff\,” to help raise some funds for their residency. The program will feature operatic favorites\, including arias\, duets\, and trios\, and and they will be joined at the piano by\, Helen Becqué. \nEnjoy some beautiful music\, have a cup of tea or coffee\, and help support up and coming Canadian talent! \nNote: Tickets are $40 or PWYC\, with donations welcomed. Please pay at the door in cash.

SUMMARY:Opera 5 | Come Closer
DESCRIPTION:Join Opera 5 for the world premiere of Come Closer – a new Canadian opera by composer Ryan Trew and librettist Rachel Krehm based on Rachel’s experience of losing her sister Elizabeth to addiction. Full of nostalgia\, joy\, connection\, and reflection\, Come Closer follows Big Sister through a series of waking dreams sparked by the poetry of her late Little Sister. As Big Sister reads\, she explores the past and her mind tries to make sense of who her sister was\, their relationship from innocent childhood to a more fractured adolescence\, what happened\, and how to continue forward. \nPart of Opera 5’s 2025 Toronto Opera Festival at Factory Threatre (125 Bathurst St.)
