DESCRIPTION:Leaf Music & The Venuti String Quartet Present: Drew Jurecka & Maurice Ravel: String Quartets \nThe Venuti String Quartet is made up of some of the most sought-after freelance musicians in Toronto. Their members frequently perform with many of the major orchestral ensembles in Toronto\, including The Toronto Symphony Orchestra\, The Canadian Opera Company\, The National Ballet of Canada and Tafelmusik. They are a highly versatile group comfortable performing not only the great classical repertoire but also jazz\, contemporary and many other musical genres. Their violinist\, Drew Jurecka also composes and arranges for the quartet. \nThey have worked with artists and ensembles including Payadora Tango Ensemble\, Jill Barber\, Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company\, The Hogtown Syncopators\, The Gryphon Trio and The Art of Time Ensemble. The Venuti String Quartet can be heard frequently as recording artists for film and various recording projects including Royal Wood’s\, Donovan Wood’s and Justin Gray’s most recent records. They are quartet in residence for Caledon Chamber Concerts. \nDoors open at 7 p.m.\, show starts at 8 p.m. \n\n296 Broadview is not yet a fully wheelchair accessible venue\, with stairs between all levels. DESCRIPTION:Violetta Valéry knows that she will die soon\, exhausted by her restless life as a courtesan. At a party she is introduced to Alfredo Germont\, who has been fascinated by her for a long time. \nShe is touched by his candid manner and honesty and although she doesn’t want to give up her way of life she feels that Alfredo has awakened her desire to be truly loved and they enjoy their love in the country\, far from society. \nIn Alfredo’s absence\, his father\, Giorgio Germont\, pays her a visit. He demands that she separate from his son\, as their relationship threatens his daughter’s impending marriage. She is a woman who loves unselfishly and she finally agrees to leave Alfredo forever. \nAlfredo reads her goodbye letter and is enraged and bitter at what he believs to be her betrayal. He confronts Violetta at a party declaring that she is terrible and he owes her nothing. Alfredo father Giorgio sees his mistake and tells Alfredo of Violettas sacrifice.
