SUMMARY:Canadian Chamber Orchestra | Movie Night

This concert highlights Canadian composers such as Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings) and Mychael Danna (Life of Pi)\, and also includes beloved songs from our Canadian Film Songbook\, such as Broken Social Scene (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Owen Pallet’s ‘The Moon Song’ (Her). \nThe musicians of the CCO believe that leading from the heart shouldn’t be limited to special events. Our residency at ESG includes partnering with their Food Insecurity Program. Admission is by donation of two pounds of non-perishable goods\, or a pay-what-you-can ticket. We affirm our belief that everyone should have access to food\, art\, and shelter and our artistic initiatives serve to support local families in need. “We believe that when talent leads from the heart\, everyone prospers\,” says CCO cellist and Artistic Director Drew Comstock. \nThe CCO has also commissioned Toronto based artist Joy Zheng to create original artwork to reflect the themes of this season. Her work will be featured throughout the season\, with special commemorative prints of her original artwork available at the event. \nRefreshments\, including snacks and popcorn\, will be available during the event\, and our bar will stay open for happy hour during the post-concert reception with CCO musicians. \nAdmission: Donation of 2lbs non-perishable food items\, or Pay-what-you-can ticket

SUMMARY:Metropolitan United Church | Blessed Rest: the German Requiem of Heinrich Schütz
DESCRIPTION:Blessed Rest: the German Requiem of Heinrich Schütz \nOne of the most profound musical reflections on life and death from the time of the Thirty Years’ War\, Schütz sets texts from scripture and Martin Luther to form a distinctly Protestant Requiem (Mass for the Dead) – one that almost certainly inspired Johannes Brahms’ 19th-century setting that we will present in April 2025. The Met Festival Choir is accompanied by a lavish continuo section including organ\, harpsichord\, regal\, theorbo\, and violone. \nSuggested contribution $40.
