DESCRIPTION:SELECT CLASSICAL WORKS WITH THE TORONTO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA \nGrammy nominated Devonté Hynes is accompanied by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra\, performing contemporary classical music that confronts the complexities of the 21st Century identity. \nRaised in England\, Devonté Hynes started in the punk band Test Icicles before releasing two orchestral acoustic pop records as Lightspeed Champion. Since 2011\, Hynes has released four solo albums under the name Blood Orange. \nIn addition to his solo work\, Hynes has collaborated with pop music superstars including Mariah Carey\, A$AP Rocky\, Solange\, and many others. In 2018\, Hynes was one of four pianists invited to play alongside Phillip Glass at the Kennedy Center\, and in 2020\, he was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Chamber Music or Small Ensemble Performance for his work with Third Coast Percussion on their album Fields. In 2022\, he collaborated with the Brooklyn Academy of Music\, as well as the LA Philharmonic\, for sold out performances of his Selected Classical Works program.

DESCRIPTION:Toronto Operetta Theatre’s 2024-2025 season opens with a new production of Sigmund Romberg’s popular hit musical\, THE STUDENT PRINCE. \nRomberg’s many musicals were filled with one great tune after another\, but none was so packed with hits as THE STUDENT PRINCE. The students’ ‘Drinking Song’\, Prince Karl Franz’s ‘Serenade\, duets like ‘Deep in my Heart’ and ‘Golden Days’ are just a few of the immortal melodies that flowed from his pen. \nDorothy Donnelly’s book and lyrics are based on Meyer- Förster’s play Olde Heidelberg and tells a bittersweet tale of young love\, innocence and the call of duty in the fictitious German principality of Karlsberg. \nCast & Creatives \nTenor  Xavier Flory as Prince Karl Franz \nSoprano Brooke Mitchell as Kathie\, the innkeeper’s niece \nBaritone Ryan Hofman as Prince Karl Franz’s mentor at the University\, Doctor Engel \nThe student corps will be led by Marcus Tranquilli as Detlef.
