SUMMARY:Toronto Symphony Orchestra | Mozart’s “Prague”
DESCRIPTION:Bela Bartók’s delightfully effervescent Divertimento for String Orchestra was composed in just 15 days. Its playful folk rhythms brought a brief respite of tranquility shortly before the Hungarian-born composer fled Fascist Europe for the US. Mozart’s popular “Prague” Symphony was composed as an ode to the city while The Marriage of Figaro was being fêted there. The World première of a work by Métis composer Ian Cusson\, created in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)\, rounds out the program.

The ballet’s three acts – Emeralds\, Rubies and Diamonds – are each set to the music of a different composer and often appear as standalone pieces. This season\, The National Ballet of Canada will present Jewels in its entirety\, giving full expression to this celebrated work. \nJewels\, George Balanchine’s glittering triptych of Emeralds\, Rubies and Diamonds\, is performed in its entirety for the first time since 2006.
