SUMMARY:Canadian Opera Company | Medea
DESCRIPTION:Never before seen at the COC and seldom performed anywhere in the world\, Cherubini’s Medea finally arrives at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in a striking new production helmed by renowned Scottish director Sir David McVicar. Based on the ancient Greek myth\, the sorceress Medea helps Giasone\, leader of the famous Argonauts\, steal the Golden Fleece — only to be abandoned by him\, setting her down a path of chilling\, violent vengeance against all those who have wronged her. The star-studded cast features renowned soprano Sondra Radvanovsky\, one of the select few singers ever to tackle the famously challenging title role\, sharing the title role with Chiara Isotton as well as some of America’s finest operatic artists: tenor Matthew Polenzani as Giasone\, and soprano Janai Brugger as Glauce.

SUMMARY:Canadian Music Centre | Games of the Night Wind Album Launch with Christina Petrowska Quilico
DESCRIPTION:The album Games of the Night Wind features 12 nocturnes by David Jaeger\, along with other works inspired by the night\, creating a dreamy musical landscape as performed by pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico. Sharp staccato and an increasingly startled momentum drives the image of an encounter with the shadows in Nocturne 11\, The Alarm Bell\, a weighty contrast to the deep rubato and heaving nostalgia in Nocturne 1\, In Memory Of — yet both hail from the same thematic darkness that expands across the entirety of the album. These sensations are ever present in Tōru Takemitsu’s starry Les yeux clos\, Alexandre Tansman’s complex and lyrical nocturnes\, and two works by Górecki\, whose Lullaby sings GAMES OF THE NIGHT WIND off to sleep. \nGAMES OF THE NIGHT WIND plays to the unfettered wildness of the night\, a force of nature encapsulated in every aspect of Petrowska Quilico and Jaeger’s musical and poetic collaboration\, an elegant exploration for the night owl in us all. \nProgramme: \n1. Töru Takemitsu – Les Yeux Clos\n2. David Jaeger –  Nocturne: The Murmur (Poetry by Seán Haldane)\n3. Alexandre Tansman – Nocturne no.4\n4. David Jaeger – Nocturne: Forget the Day (Poetry by Christina Petrowska Quilico)\n5. David Jaeger – Nocturne: Games of the Night Wind (Poetry by Christina Petrowska Quilico)\n6. Henryk Górecki – Lullaby \n*Free with RSVP required at the link \nImage: L-R David Trent Jaeger; Christina Petrowska Quilico (Photos courtesy of the artists)
