SUMMARY:Canadian Opera Company | Don Pasquale
DESCRIPTION:Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale returns to the COC for the first time in 30 years in a Technicolor production by Renaud Doucet and André Barbe. The French-Canadian creative team make their company debut with a lighthearted family feud: the aging Pasquale refuses to let his love-struck nephew Ernesto get married only to unwittingly choose his nephew’s beloved Norina as his own bride-to-be. The comic bel canto opera features COC favourites soprano Simone Osborne and tenor Santiago Ballerini as the young lovers\, and Georgian baritone Misha Kiria making his company debut in the title role. SUMMARY:The Royal Conservatory of Music | Alex Cuba and Raul Midón
DESCRIPTION:A double bill of soul\, jazz\, and Latin pop sounds\, featuring two dazzling singer-songwriters and instrumentalists – the troubadour from Miami and the Cuban songsmith from Smithers\, BC. \nGrammy\, Latin Grammy\, and Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Alex Cuba’s songs are compelling exchanges that effortlessly groove through soul\, funk\, jazz\, and pop styles. A forward-thinking\, indie-minded artist\, Cuba’s sugarcane-sweet melodies\, pop-soul hooks\, and powerful guitar riffs have garnered him over 20 awards and nominations\, including four Latin Grammys\, two Junos Awards\, three Grammy nominations\, and one Grammy win. “He’s like Marvin Gaye singing soul to a new generation.” (Boston Globe) \nRaul Midón is also a Grammy Award nominated contemporary singer/songwriter whose impassioned acoustic guitar playing – which traverses pop\, jazz\, soul\, urban\, cumbia\, and flamenco – has garnered as much attention as his smooth singing and sophisticated writing. He has worked with countless legends in the industry\, including Bill Withers\, Herbie Hancock\, Sting\, Terence Blanchard\, and Dianne Reeves\, to name a few. “Midón has a beautifully controlled baritone that can express anything from tenderness to passion. And the guy can play.” (The Guardian)
