SUMMARY:Ottawa Chamberfest | Duo Concertante: Sense of a Woman
DESCRIPTION:Duo Concertante celebrates women composers with a programme including three works commissioned by the duo: Ottawa’s Kelly-Marie Murphy’s “Dance Me to your Beauty with a Burning Violin\,” Jocelyn Morlock’s “Petrichor\,” and Dawn Avery’s “Iotsistokwaronion.” For over twenty years\, Canadian musicians Nancy Dahn (violin) and Timothy Steeves (piano) have built an acclaimed international career as Duo Concertante. Their name references Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” sonata – “in stilo molto concertante” – and these two performers\, like the inscription suggests\, perform with equal\, dynamic voices. After their first concert in 1997\, Halifax’s Chronicle Herald called them “two packages of musical dynamite that would credit any stage on the planet.” Since then\, these champions of Canadian music have played more than 600 performances around the world\, produced twelve albums\, and recorded over 65 commissioned works.

SUMMARY:Ottawa Chamberfest | Canadian National Brass Project
DESCRIPTION:The Canadian National Brass Project is true Canadiana. Drawing from the title chairs of fifteen North American orchestras and under the artistic leadership of Canada’s premiere horn soloist James Sommerville\, this special collaboration shines a light on Canada’s foremost players and composers. The project returns to Chamberfest with a cleverly curated program bolstered by impeccable technique. Featuring both humorous and powerful interpretations of well-loved classics\, work by contemporary composers\, and some choral music reimagined for horns\, the performance includes Canadian composer Nicole Lizée’s skittishly evocative How to Fake Your Own Death (2015) and Canadian Kevin Lau’s cinematically adventurous CAGE (2016). Like a playfully energizing wind\, this all-star brass ensemble promises to deliver a lively and refreshing blast of a concert! \nCanadian National Brass Projectbrass ensemble
