SUMMARY:Canadian Opera Company | Carmen - Bizet
DESCRIPTION:The fiercely independent Carmen becomes ensnared in a high-stakes game among garrison soldiers\, smugglers\, and a superstar bullfighter in Bizet’s blockbuster opera. \nOur classic production transports audiences to a sun-drenched setting of bustling street scenes and outlaw hideaways\, with a dramatic climax that crackles with electricity. American mezzo soprano star J’Nai Bridges—dubbed “the Beyonce of opera” by BET—makes her COC debut in the iconic titular role. \nWith the COC Orchestra and Chorus

SUMMARY:Royal Conservatory of Music | The Psalms Project: Mike Janzen with String Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Composer and pianist Mike Janzen will be joined by a stellar band as well as a chamber string orchestra to perform pieces from The Psalms Project\, including debut songs from the brand new third volume. Powerful\, beautiful\, and restorative\, The Psalms Project are Psalm-inspired songs that Janzen composed and arranged while recovering from a serious concussion injury\, later recording them during the pandemic. Juno Award-winning artist Laila Biali says\, “Gorgeous. An oasis for the spirit.” \nAn artist with diverse talents\, Mike Janzen’s jazz releases with his trio have been hailed as “distinctive and sublime” (Jazz Times)\, while his “intricate\, imaginative orchestrations” (Winnipeg Free Press) in his Reimagining Broadway orchestral show (with Sarah Slean) have delighted audiences across Canada. Janzen’s exploration of sacred themes in his album Nudging Forever (original compositions blending lush orchestral sounds with the spontaneity of jazz)\, earned him a Juno nomination for Jazz Album of the Year (2017).
