DESCRIPTION:Masaaki Suzuki directs Bach’s profound work of transcendent spirituality at Massey Hall. \nThe multi-award-winning conductor and Bach specialist Masaaki Suzuki returns as guest director for one of the great masterpieces of Western art music\, Bach’s Mass in B Minor. \nTowards the end of his life\, Bach compiled a series of masterworks which would represent the culmination of almost four decades of his compositional endeavours. The drama follows her (mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano) and her pianist/husband (baritone Ryan Bradford) as they confront their new reality. The tragic end-result resolves in a new\, elevated understanding of their love. This one act opera\, in its Canadian premiere\, features an ensemble of string quartet\, piano\, and clarinet\, all of whom are members of The Royal Conservatory’s renowned ARC Ensemble.
