SUMMARY:Canadian Opera Company | Espiral by OKAN (online)
DESCRIPTION:With a name that means “heart” in the Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria\, the Toronto-based women-led group OKAN crafts songs that explore immigration\, courage\, and love. \nHaving received JUNO\, Canadian Folk Music\, and Independent Music Award nominations for their debut album Sombras\, OKAN’s sophomore offering\, Espiral delves deeper into the group’s rich Cuban roots\, finding renewed inspiration in that musical heritage. \nIn this concert\, OKAN performs selections from Espiral\, their 2021 Juno Award-winning album\, fusing jazz\, folk\, and global rhythms with Afro-Cuban roots. It’s a performance that draws upon a multiplicity of musical influences and the multicultural mosaic of Toronto. \nCast & Creative Team\nOKAN:\nElizabeth Rodriguez\, vocals/violin\nMagdelys Savigne\, vocals/percussion\nJeremy Ledbetter\, piano\nRoberto Mederos\, bass\nFrank Nodarse\, drums

SUMMARY:U of T Opera | The Barber of Seville
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for U of T Opera’s production of The Barber of Seville livestreamed from MacMillan Theatre on Saturday\, November 27 at 7:30 pm and Sunday\, November 28 at 2:30 pm on the Faculty of Music YouTube channel (YouTube.com/UofTMusic). \nMusic by Gioachino Rossini\nLibretto by Cesare Sterbini\, based upon Le Barbier de Séville by Pierre Beaumarchais \nThis opera production is made possible in part by a generous gift from Marina Yoshida. \nIt is almost two hundred and fifty years years since the playwright\, Pierre Beaumarchais created the character of Figaro\, yet the charming\, resourceful barber remains one of the most beloved figures in comic opera. Sterbini’s witty libretto and Rossini’s effervescent score combine to make The Barber of Seville one of the most popular and frequently performed operas in the entire repertory. Sung in Italian with English surtitles\, the production is designed by Wesley McKenzie with costumes by Lisa Magill. Michael Patrick Albano directs and Russell Braun conducts\, with coaching by Carmen Santoro\, Rossini Specialist and The Azrieli Foundation Opera Visiting Artist. \n**Please note that the Nov 25 & 26 performances will not be streamed. The performances on Nov 27 and Nov 28 will be livestreamed on the Faculty of Music YouTube channel (YouTube.com/UofTMusic).

SUMMARY:Tafelmusik | A Tafelmusik Christmas (in-person)
DESCRIPTION:Peace\, joy\, merriment\, and hope—Christmas wouldn’t be the same without Tafelmusik!\n \nCurated by Ivars Taurins\, this festive program spanning two centuries reunites members of the choir and orchestra for the first time in 2021 — a perfect way to launch the 40th anniversary season of Tafelmusik Chamber Choir. \nA selection of sparkling choruses from Handel’s Messiah and richly harmonized baroque arrangements of Christmas carols complement the exuberance of Bach and the elegance of Charpentier. Choral works by Berlioz and Poulenc add depth and dimension\, evoking a sense of wonder and tranquillity that is synonymous with the season. Pastoral sinfonias by Stradella and Pasquini balance this program recalling the many moods and emotions of Christmas. \nIvars Taurins director\nTafelmusik Chamber Choir \n*November 25 & 26 performances will be filmed and may have some obstructed seats due to camera crews
