SUMMARY:Royal Conservatory | Daniel Hope with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:“One day I heard what I thought was birdsong coming from the stage. It was the opening solo of La primavera from The Four Seasons\,” Daniel Hope describes\, “It had such an electrifying effect that I still call it my ‘Vivaldi Spring.’ How was it possible to conjure up so vivid\, so natural a sound\, with just a violin?” \n“This violinist\, now among the best in the world as well as the most thoughtful\, is as brilliant at Bach as Birtwistle.” (The Observer) Daniel Hope\, a Koerner Hall favourite on his fourth visit to our hall\, has toured the world as a virtuoso soloist for 25 years and is celebrated for his musical versatility as well as his dedication to humanitarian causes. Winner of the 2015 European Cultural Prize for Music\, he appears as soloist with the world’s major orchestras and conductors\, also directing many ensembles from the violin. In 2017\, the documentary film Daniel Hope – The Sound of Life was screened in European movie theatres. Currently\, he serves as Music Director of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra – an orchestra with which he is closely associated since his early childhood. \n“Listening to these dramatic\, historically-informed performances\, one is immediately struck by how Vivaldi’s prefatory sonnets and musical sound-painting can become not mere evocations of natural phenomena but starting points for deliberate\, and far more exciting\, abstractions which find their loci in pure emotion. Especially to be welcomed is Hope’s fluent\, abundant decoration of the melodic line\, particularly in the slower movements\, which is echoed by the marvelously imaginative continuo section’s own elaborations.” (Limelight) \nPlease join us at 2pm for a Prelude Recital with students from The Glenn Gould School \nProgram: \nJohann Sebastian Bach: Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor\, BWV 104 \nBechara El-Khoury: Unfinished Journey\, op. 77 \nFelix Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in D Minor \nAntonio Vivaldi: The Four Seasons \nTickets\, here.

SUMMARY:Royal Conservatory | ARC Ensemble presents the works of Dmitri Klebanov
DESCRIPTION:The Ukrainian-Jewish composer\, Dmitri Klebanov\, was one of communism’s many casualties. Three-time Grammy nominated ARC Ensemble (Artists of The Royal Conservatory) continues its research and recovery of music that was suppressed and marginalized under the 20th century’s repressive regimes. For this concert\, ARC revives Klebanov’s vivacious String Quartet No. 4\, a stunning Piano Trio performed by Rebanks Fellow Kevin Ahfat\, and a group of extraordinary songs performed by guest mezzo-soprano\, Olenka Slywynska. \nFree tickets will be available starting Fri.
