SUMMARY:Off Centre Music Salon | 24th Annual Schubertiad
DESCRIPTION:“No one feels another’s grief\, no one understands another’s joy. People imagine they can reach one another. In reality they only pass each other by.”\n– Franz Schubert \nWhile the idea of listening to and performing individual songs in a specific sequence — as a cohesive song cycle — may have existed as early as the middle ages\, it was certainly a genre that came into its own in 19th Century Europe. And if Beethoven is to be credited with the earliest example of the German language song cycle (with his 1816 cycle An die ferne Geliebte)\, Franz Schubert will forever be recognized as the groundbreaking innovator of the genre. Come enjoy our carefully crafted tasting menu of selections from Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin\, Winterreise and Schwanengesang… a feast of unpredictable melodies and infinite genius. \nFEATURING\nIgor GEFTER\, cello\nAndrew HAJI\, tenor\nMaeve PALMER\, soprano\nInna PERKIS\, piano\nMark SKAZINETSKY\, violin\nMicah YUI\, piano\nBoris ZARANKIN\, piano
