SUMMARY:Windermere String Quartet | Sacred Spaces
DESCRIPTION:Oct. 21\, 2018: Sacred Spaces: We open space for musical reflection with two works with a religious theme. Carl Loewe’s Quatuor Spirituel\, an unusual and highly intriguing work from 1830\, carries a specific program based on psalms and scripture. We are looking forward to reprising Julia Mermelstein’s Echoes of Illumina\, commissioned by us in 2015\, which draws on a motet by Gesualdo. We round out this programme with Beethoven’s Op. 18 # 1\, whose slow movement is a musical evocation of Romeo and Juliet in their tomb.
