DESCRIPTION:Haydn – String Trio\, Op. 53 No.1 in G major\nCaplet – Conte fantastique Harp and String Quartet\nRavel – String Quartet\nJoin Marie Bérard\, Winona Zelenka\, and Rémi Pelletier for a gorgeous spring afternoon of music on demand. \nTrio Arkel welcomes guest artists: \nHeidi Elise Bearcroft – harp \nEmily Kruspe – violin \nKathleen Kajioka – narrator \nFor the final concert of season 9 Trio Arkel explores three different evocative pieces of music. \nHaydn composed several piano trios but string trios were rare. For his String Trio\, the listener will be surprised and delighted by this colourful and vibrant work. \nWe contrast that with Caplet’s Conte fantastique\, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s Masque of the Red Death. This gothic piece is full of harmonics and glissandos that conjure an uneasy spectre of doom for the listener as we follow the story of Prince Prospero and his masked ball during the time of a devastating plague. \nListeners will then be treated to Ravel’s String Quartet\, which has a rich luxurious sound that juxtaposes formality and sensuality to give the allusion of a much fuller string section beyond the quartet. The String Quartet demonstrates Ravel’s sense of freedom to be bold and spontaneous in his compositions. \nStreamed On Demand – $20\nSunday\, June 12\, 2022 – Sunday\, June 26\, 2022\nThe On Demand performance link will be sent out on June 11 and will be available to play starting at 3 PM EDT on June 12.
