Schubert: Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 114, D. 667 “The Trout”
One of the most joyous of all chamber compositions – it dates from a carefree holiday in the Austrian Alps during the summer of 1819 – Schubert’s sunny “Trout” Quintet anchors this enchanting program. It is nicknamed after a song that Schubert had composed two years earlier. This concert gives you the delightful opportunity to hear the song first, then the variations on it that Schubert created for the quintet’s fourth movement.
