“Let us all sing on this day the glory of love.” – Lully, Chaconne from Amadis
Marking a milestone in the history of Tafelmusik’s acclaimed choir, this program features music close to the hearts of choir members and audiences alike. We return to joyful and spirited works by Handel, Zelenka, and Rameau, and introduce excerpts by the remarkable Italian composer Agostino Steffani. His Stabat Mater, completed shortly before he died in 1728, is an astonishingly beautiful piece, and was famously part of Cecilia Bartoli’s groundbreaking three-disc exploration of Steffani’s music.
Featured soloists are soprano Sherezade Panthaki and bass-baritone Jonathan Woody (alumni of theTafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute), and Montreal tenor Philippe Gagné in his Tafelmusik debut.
