Celebrate the magic of the Christmas season with us! Johann Sebastian Bach’s Advent cantata Nun komm der Heiden Heiland (Now come, Saviour of the heathens) anticipates the coming of Christ with dramatic music for four soloists, while his cantata for the day after Christmas (Part II of the Christmas Oratorio) tells the story of the annunciation to the shepherds with the beautiful, pastoral sounds of flutes and oboes. A wonderful modern complement to these two religious works is Stephanie Martin’s charming secular cantata Winter Nights, a wry, and in places moving, take on the season of snow.
