SUMMARY:Ottawa Chamberfest | Mark Fewer\, Jeanie Chung\, & Thalea String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Chamberfest favourite Mark Fewer returns with a lush and passionate program including Ernest Chausson’s Concerto for Violin\, Piano\, and String Quartet\, and a newly commissioned work from Yellowknife’s award-winning contemporary composer Carmen Braden. Fewer’s “intrepid” and “genre-bending” violin playing will be joined by celebrated Canadian pianist Jeanie Chung and the Thalea String Quartet. Chamberfest is happy to welcome back Chung and is looking forward to the Thaleas’ Chamberfest debut. \nDon’t miss the Ottawa premiere of Carmen Braden’s You Know What’s Coming\, You Just Don’t Know When. Inspired by the Chausson Concerto\, Braden captures the inevitability of arriving at change through repetition\, like waves wearing rock into a new shoreline. Says Braden: “We’ve all got patterns in our lives. Repetitions\, slight variations\, routine\, feelings of being stuck\, or peaceful stasis. And then … changes! Watching the kids grow\, every day has a ridiculous amount of repetition. And I feel a ridiculous amount of pride and surprise when they ALL OF A SUDDEN can reach the top of the counter so now all the sharp things have to move up on shelves.” Braden’s music always reflects her deep study of lake ice\, northern life\, raven calls\, and bedrock\, transporting both the performer and listener to an ancient and essential northern soundscape.
