The Hogtown Brass Quintet is a Toronto-based chamber ensemble dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the traditional brass ensemble.
Formed in 2013, the Hogtown Brass Quintet (HBQ) is a collaboration among five accomplished and diverse musicians, committed to presenting unique concert experiences, entertaining and informative educational programs, in addition to bringing brass chamber music to new audiences. Its mission is to present traditional brass repertoire alongside new, distinct works to reinvigorate the classic brass quintet.
The members of HBQ reflect diverse musical backgrounds, from Classical to pop to jazz. Dedicated to education as well as performance, the HBQ is experienced in presenting music to people of all ages in a variety of settings.
“The Hogtown Brass is a class act. They are meticulous with rhythmic patterns – which are always precise, as is their ensemble. Humour is a part of their style. Not only do these fine musicians play with accuracy and sensitivity, they also communicate to the audience how much fun they are having in the process.” – Howard Cable
“My students were very impressed by the high calibre of performance and skill by the Hogtown Brass. They were still talking about the performance and the performance ideas that were presented weeks later. I am so glad that I booked this group. They were highly professional and provided a lot of inspiration for my high school band students. I highly recommend this group.” – Marsha King, Nelson High School
“The Hogtown Brass performed a wonderful concert for my high school band students. Their performance was excellent and it was obvious they are all are extremely accomplished musicians. Their performance and obvious passion for what they are doing left my students excited about music and their own instruments. I will definitely have them back for an encore performance!” – Nancy Flood, Band Director, Riverdale Collegiate Institute
“Thank you for the wonderful performances prior to Saturday’s Young People’s Concerts! Your performance was both entertaining and educational at the same time, and I think it got all of our young audience members excited to listen to chamber music and symphonic music.” – Faeron Pileggi, Manager, Education & Pops, Toronto Symphony Orchestra
