Led by Artistic Director and internationally renowned concert pianist Andrew Burashko, the Art of Time Ensemble seeks to reveal the qualities that lie at the heart of all great music, without regard to the strictures of genre. With music as its point of reference, Art of Time brings together music and other art forms such as dance, theatre, literature and visual arts to create a multi-disciplinary hybrid where none of the components are diluted, but rather form a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Burashko formed Art of time in 1998 by inviting a small group of like-minded musicians to perform one-off concerts to small but enthusiastic audiences. Today, Art of Time presents a subscription series in its home base of Toronto, performs nation-wide with the country’s top orchestras and is about to embark on its second international tour, performing in 13 cities in the United States.
Art of Time’s featured artists include authors Margaret Atwood and Michael Ondaatje; choreographers Peggy Baker, James Kudelka and David Earle; dancers Evelyn Hart and Piotr Stanczyk; singers Madeleine Peyroux, Jackie Richardson, Steven Page and Sarah Slean; actors Martha Burns, Tom McCamus, R. H. Thomson, Ted Dykstra, Lucy Peacock and Julian Richings; and filmmakers Peter Mettler and Tess Girard.
Music and musicians are at the heart of Art of Time Ensemble; the pool of artists Art of Time collaborates with is deep and their talent unmatched. Featured musicians include Branford Marsalis, Gavin Bryars, Jonathan Goldsmith, Rachel Mercer, Benjamin Bowman, Stephen Sitarski, Roman Borys, Steven Dann, Thomas Wiebe, Phil Dwyer, and Rob Piltch.
