Digital Content Editor

Ludwig Van is the premier Canadian digital media publication for classical music, opera and theatre lovers. We are obsessed with celebrating the arts and delivering quality hyperlocal content to our 100 thousand + monthly visitors. At the center of our success is our talented writers and editors, and we’re going full speed ahead in 2019.

Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate editor who knows how to turn a fine sentence across a variety of online platforms. The ideal applicant is comfortable working remotely in a collaborative environment alongside a team passionate about the arts. We are looking for candidates in Toronto or Montréal who are bilingual (French/English), have mastered the fundamentals of copyediting in both French and English, and are also well-versed in modern SEO best practices. The applicant must have their own computer, reliable internet connection, and be available for occasional in-person (or skyped in) editorial meetings.

The Digital Content Editor will be responsible for ensuring all copy published on Ludwig Van meets our standards for style, function, and format. The role calls for a mix of copyediting and SEO-friendly headline creation.

This is a part-time position with approximately 4 hours per day at a salary of $25/hour.

Accountabilities

  • Proofread and adjust articles for format and visual integrity, and support editorial staff in fact-checking content in preparation for publication
  • Copy edit articles based on Ludwig Van’s House Style.
  • Assist in sourcing and images for use in articles, and ensure attribution
  • Publish articles according to content guidelines
  • Edit and write headlines for SEO and social
  • Post and schedule published articles and other related content on social media
  • Manage social media comments to ensure healthy discourse
  • Maintain and input data into our online event calendar
  • Be willing to nurture our content to new levels, and suggest room for improvement
  • Assist in editorial planning

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of relevant industry experience in classical music or arts journalism
  • Deep understanding of digital and social media
  • Degree or diploma in music, English, communications, journalism, or relevant field (or equivalent experience)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a range of editors and writers
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively proofread and edit content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of accuracy, organization, and creativity while maintaining attention to detail
  • Experience with the use of WordPress
  • Comfortable using photo editing tools and software
  • Thorough understanding of web research and copyright issues
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, MS Word, Hootsuite, Slack, and Trello a plus
