Enjoy new music with our classical music chart for this week. Our weekly selections are based on sales numbers and simply what albums we love and think you NEED to hear.
For the complete top 20, tune into Classical Chartz with the New Classical FM’s Mark Wigmore every Saturday from 3-5 p.m.
Andre Rieu’s Jewels of Romance, perhaps not surprisingly going into Valentine’s month, races up the chart from number 6 to the top spot. The Vienna Philharmonic with Christian Tielemann and their New Year’s Concert 2024 jump even higher from No. 9 to the second spot.
Bruce Liu’s Waves climbs back into the Top Ten at position no. 9, up from 11 last week.
New to the Top Ten is James Newton Howard’s Night After Night. American composer, music producer and keyboardist James Newton Howard has written the music for more than 100 films, nine of which garnered Academy Award nominations. He famously dropped out of the University of Southern California music school to join Elton John’s band on tour, and has since won both a Grammy and Emmy Award.
In this release, he delves into his movie catalogue. Howard composed the music for eight of M. Night Shyamalan’s best known movies, include The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. He reimagines the music with new orchestration. Violinist Hilary Hahn and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet contribute solos to the project.
