The second cohort of the RBC Artist Fellowship and Mentorship Program has been announced by the Association for Opera in Canada.

The list of hopefuls just announced includes 20 artists from across Canada.

So what is it?

The program looks to help give rising artists a platform for exploration and skill development, as well as mentorship.

What’s in store?

The bigger picture

With opera houses opening and closing like yo-yo’s, some artists working in opera (especially singers) have been turning to career development programs to fill the gap.

Others have chosen to travel to more opera-friendly cities in Europe such as Vienna, Austria. It’s here that opera companies enjoy much more government support that allows them to remain open while enduring profit-killing capacity limits.
