The Recording Academy has announced the nominations for the 2022 GRAMMY Awards. The 64th GRAMMY Awards recognize recordings released between Sept. 1, 2020 and Sept. 30, 2021.
Justin Bieber leads a strong Canadian contingent over a broad range of categories overall with eight nominations, followed by Toronto’s the Weeknd with five. Montreal singer-songwriter/poet Allison Russell received three nominations in the Americana and American roots categories. Drake is up for two awards, and Toronto filmmaker Petra Collins’ video for Olivia Rodrigo’s Good 4 U single is also on the list of nominees.
Canadian artists also made a strong showing in the classical music categories, particularly when it comes to vocal music.

Notable Canadians in the other categories include Alexis Puentes aka Alex Cuba’s album Mendó, which gets a nod in the Best Latin Pop category. The soundtrack to Quebec director Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune, composed by Hans Zimmer, was nominated for best score soundtracks. Music journalist Kevin Howes was nominated in the best album notes category.
The 64th Grammy Awards air the 2022 GRAMMY Awards show on Mon, Jan. 31, on the CBS Television Network (in Canada on CBS and Citytv), and stream live and on demand on Paramount+ from 8–11:30 p.m. ET / 5–8:30 p.m. PT. Prior to the telecast, the GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater at 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on GRAMMY.com and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel.
