Ottawa-born cellist Bryan Cheng has won 2nd prize and the Audience Prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva, Switzerland.

In a statement to Ludwig Van, the 24-year-old cellist thanked the Canadians who supported and encouraged him throughout the competition by following his performances.

“It is a great honour for me to receive all of these awards, especially the Audience Award, which is dear to me,” he said.

The Geneva International Music Competition includes a cash prize of just under $20,000.

The first prize was won by the Japanese cellist, Michiaki Ueno.
