An extraordinary contribution of $500,000 from a long-time supporter of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) has been announced this week.
The anonymous donor is said to have a lengthy relationship with the VSO and firmly believes in the capacity to bring our community together via a flourishing symphony and culture.
The funds will be made as a matching gift, whereby all donations to the VSO will be matched until a total of $1,000,000 has been raised over the fall.
“This extraordinary gift, the largest individual matching gift in the VSO’s history,” says Leanne Davis, Vice President and Chief Development Officer of the VSO. “The generosity of the community has always been the driving force behind the VSO, and we need them now more than ever. This matching campaign will double the impact of every dollar raised, and it could not come at a more crucial time.”
A transformational gift
Since cancelling all its in-person performances back in March 2020 due to the pandemic, the VSO has launched a recovery program.
To help make up for the loss of in-person ticket revenue, the funds will be used to help fund a return to a regular season with international guest artists in 2022-23.
