Early Music Vancouver (EMV) has named Montreal-based baritone Jonathon Adams as its first-ever summer artist-in-residence.

Adams will join Early Music Vancouver to appear in three concerts during the Vancouver Bach Festival between July 26 to August 6. Adams, a two-spirited Cree-Métis artist, will also participate in a panel talk with other leading Indigenous musicians and scholars on Indigenous music’s inclusion in early music. He will also write a series of essays on diversity and inclusion for the EMV website.

“The music of Bach has long been close to my heart and I am thrilled to be performing his music, amongst other repertoire, with many of my close friends from across Canada during the Bach Festival,” Adams said. “As a Cree-Métis artist, I hope my time in residence will help build bridges between EMV and Vancouver’s Indigenous communities while widening horizons of possibility for the performance of historical musics.”

Career Highlights:

The news marks the second major announcement for EMV after renowned soprano Suzie LeBlanc was named artistic and executive director this past January.
