The MET Orchestra Musicians & the Met Chorus Artists have not been paid in about 10 months. It’s a fact that has sparked resentment when the Met Opera has staged several livestreaming events during the COVID pandemic — but without Met musicians.

The Met’s Canadian Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, along with his life partner Pierre Tourville, wanted to help. They have provided a generous offer of dollar-matching that will help fund the MET Orchestra Musicians and the Met Chorus Artists, organizations providing aid to the out-of-work performers.

Any donations made by the public from January 4 to 27, 2021 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $50,000. Up to $25,000 will go to each organization.

Supporters of the MET Orchestra Musicians can donate here and for The Met Chorus Artists, donate here.

The MET Orchestra Musicians & the Met Opera Chorus Artists released a statement in recognition of the announcement.

“As the MET Orchestra Musicians & the Met Opera Chorus Artists turn the page to 2021, we are pleased to begin with a special fundraising matching campaign, to support our community of artists in these unprecedented times.”
