Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Announces New Executive Director

Toronto’s leading professional choir has announced the hiring of Anna Kajtar as Executive Director of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (TMC).

Kajtar will be taking on the role from Cynthia Hawkins, who recently stepped down as Executive Director a year following the Noel Edison sexual harassment allegation scandal that resulted in his resigning.

According to a subsequent statement by Interim Executive Director Denny Young, Hawkins chose the date to “give the new Executive Director time to prepare to manage the appointment and arrival of our new Artistic Director.”

Hawkins had served as Executive Director for 15 years.

“We are inspired and motivated by Anna’s passion for choral music, and her determination to continue TMC’s prestigious position in Canada’s arts sector,” said TMC Board Chair Erin Finlay.

Kajtar’s extensive experience includes work as a Producer at Groundling Theatre since 2001, former Executive Director of the Art of Time Ensemble (2007–2011), and Academy Manager at the Royal Conservatory of Music (2002–2007).

She will take up the position of Executive Director on November 4, 2019.

The choir is currently conducting an international search for a new Artistic Director, with an announcement expected in 2020.
