THE SCOOP | Toronto Consort Appoints Two New Members

The Toronto Consort has announced today two new members joining the ensemble: Cory Knight (tenor) and Esteban La Rotta (plucked instruments).

Cory Knight is a familiar voice in the early music community and has worked with The Toronto Consort, Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, Pacific Opera Victoria, Les Violon Du Roy, and Opera Atelier.

“I’ve had many wonderful experiences working with this group as a guest artist over the years,” said Knight. “In fact, The Toronto Consort has had a significant influence on my development as a musician and helped foster my love for Early Music. To be a part of this ensemble is to be a part of a creative and supportive atmosphere where sharing the joy of music-making is not only the end goal but a part of the process.”

As one of Canada’s leading lutenists, Esteban La Rotta is a specialist in early renaissance repertoire for solo theorbo, and has performed extensively with Festival Montréal Baroque Ensemble Gilles Binchois, Les Violons du Roy, Les Voix Humaines, Les idées Heureuses, the SMAM, Ensemble Caprice, and Pallade Musica.

“Becoming an Artistic Associate makes me feel that I’m helping to write The Toronto Consort’s history,” La Rotta said. “I’m really looking forward to being a part of this process and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to explore some of my own musical ideas.”

La Rotta will be replacing longtime Toronto Consort member, Terry McKenna. who will be leaving to focus on teaching and other projects.

Knight and La Rotta join long-time Consort members Michele DeBoer, David Fallis, Ben Grossman, Katherine Hill, Paul Jenkins, Alison Melville, John Pepper, and Laura Pudwell.
