IN MEMORIAM | Violinist Pays Tribute to Prince: (1958-2016)

I know you are probably thinking, “What is a classical music website doing paying tribute Price?” But for those of us who grew up in the 1970’s and 80’s, Prince had a lot to do with it. They called him “The Mozart of the 80’s”.  In his debut album For You (1978)Prince composed, arranged, produced, and played all 27 instruments on the recording. His music transcended genre and included elements Pop, Rock, New Wave, R&B, Funk, Blues, and Jazz.

There a spirit innovation and virtuosity in certain musicians that has been shared across the ages, from Baroque to the music of today, and for that, we pay tribute with a video by violinist Charles Yang playing a soaring violin solo in honour of an artist who has left us too soon.

Here’s another great tribute of Prince’s classic Raspberry Beret on classical guitar by Joshua Rogers.
