The fine folks at Google have a history of putting out clever little tricks as part of their search bar. An example is their “Google Doodles”, which typically show up unannounced on the birthdays of musical innovators like Debussy, Beethoven, or pianoforte inventor Bartolomeo Cristofori.
On March 16, Google quietly released a new search feature just for musicians in a pinch – a fully functional virtual metronome. All you have to do is type “metronome” in the Google search bar, and one will pop right up for you. There is a sliding bar that you can use to increase the BPM to a maximum of 208. The colour also changes and it gets faster or slower.
So there it is. Not particularly earth shattering, but for a tech company whose motto is “Don’t Be Evil”, it’s a cool trick all the same. So if you’re at home practicing and don’t have a metronome, give it a try.
