Announced this morning by the National Arts Centre (NAC) in Ottawa, Tafelmusik has been awarded the 2015 National Arts Centre Award for Distinguished Contribution to Touring in the Performing Arts.

The award was established in 1992, to highlight outstanding achievement in advancing live performing touring arts in Canada. The Award includes a $2,500 cash prize and and porcelain sculpture designed by ceramic artist Paula Murray.

The award will be presented at an special dinner during the Canadian Arts Presenting Association’s (CAPACOA) 27th annual conference on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Halifax Marriott Waterfront Hotel.

“Tafelmusik is honoured to have been selected for this year’s NAC Award for Distinguished Contribution to Touring,” said Jeanne Lamon, Chief Artistic Advisor in a press release.  “…Bringing our music to audiences across Canada and the rest of the world means so much to us, and we are thrilled to accept this award.”

Spending an average of 7 to 12 weeks each season on the road, Tafelmusik is one of Canada’s most active touring orchestras. Next month, they will travel to four cities in Southwestern Ontario, and later to Australia and New Zealand.
