Anyone familiar with the 1.6 kilometres stretch between Bathurst and Bay Street, knows it is one of Toronto’s most important cultural hubs. With thousands of concerts a year, the area houses a large number of the cities cultural gems.

The Bloor St. Culture Corridor, was first inaugurated by the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Director of Marketing, Performing Arts Heather Kelly, as a way to pool resources between the many world-class arts presenters lining the Bloor St. area.

It has been announced today that the Talisker Players will be the 14th member to join the umbrella organization. The chamber orchestra will be joining: Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir, Alliance Française de Toronto, The Native Canadian Centre of Toronto, Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Bata Shoe Museum, The Royal Conservatory, Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), Gardiner Museum, The Japan Foundation, Toronto, University of Toronto Faculty of Music, and The Toronto Consort, and now the Talisker Players.

The Talisker Players originally started in 1995 as a small orchestra dedicated to accompanying choirs. Over the years the they evolved to be more closely associated with chamber music. Besides performing music from all periods, they are particular dedicated to contemporary music, commissioning works by emerging composers as well composers Harry Somers, Harry Freedman, Malcolm Forsyth, Jean Coulthard, Violet Archer, and Sir Ernest MacMillan. They are currently Musicians in Residence at Massey College, University of Toronto.
