I was recently sent a link to an extraordinary video posted by the Telegraph’s Stephen Hough, of renowned pianist, Maria João Pires performing with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw under the baton of conductor Riccardo Chailly.
Like any professional pianist, Maria João Pires came well-prepared for the open-rehearsal concert with a Mozart concerto. But as the orchestra begins the first few notes of Mozart’s concerto – No. 20 in D minor, K466, panic streaks across her face as she realizes that it is not the concerto she was prepared to perform.
As she starts to realize what has happened, she weights her options: flight or fight.
