Canadian baritone Philippe Sly, a member of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, was awarded the $30,000 first prize tonight at the 2012 Montreal International Voice Competition. (Update below)
The first prize also comes with a career development package.
Ukraine-born Swiss soprano Olga Kindler received the $15,000 second prize, while American baritone John Brancy took the $10,000 third prize.

Sly was heaped with additional awards after the gala concert on Friday night, picking up an additional $25,000 in prize money for Best Canadian Artist, Best Artist from Quebec, Best Performance of the Imposed Canadian Work and the People’s Choice Award.
The prize of a recording by the ATMA Classique label went to tenor Yuri Gorodetski, from Belarus.
