Unclear on where Uptown actually begins, it is either north of Lawrence Avenue, or Eglinton, depending on who you ask.<\/p>\n<p>Before the nineteenth century, the area was\u00a0centred on Bloor Street around the University of Toronto. As the city and the university\u00a0grew, it became known as Uptown, but the term has gradually shifted north. You can see this history in the many preserved institutions, such as the Uptown Residences, a condo on the site of the former Uptown Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Now, \u00a0the area most often refers to the northern portion of the old city of Toronto stretching from St. Clair Avenue to Lawrence Avenue. There is no official city of Toronto definition for Uptown, but the Uptown Yonge Business Improvement area spans from Eglinton to Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p>Notable Uptown areas include\u00a0The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Davisville<\/span> neighbourhood, which is a up and coming locale for singles, and young families, who enjoy the many\u00a0bars,\u00a0restaurants and movie theatres.<\/p>\n<p>To the east is\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Lawrence Park<span style=\"color: #000000;\">,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0which is one of Toronto&rsquo;s most wealthy\u00a0residential neighbourhoods.
