SUMMARY:Pallade Musica | Monarques & Nobles
DESCRIPTION:The program delves into the various rival factions active in London upon Handel’s arrival\, featuring the results of some of the most famous rivalries of the opera world (Handel vs Bononcini\, Handel vs Porpora) as well as some of the forgotten factions such as the English Opera Project and Handel’s followers and successors. The vocal works will be sung the young Canadian countertenor Michael Taylor. Michael has won prizes at numerous international competitions and has performed on opera and concert stages worldwide – notably at the Hamburg State Opera\, New York’s Lincoln Center\, Cadogan Hall in London\, the Venice Arsenale\, Izumi Hall in Osaka\, Montreal’s Maison Symphonique and the Elgin Theater Toronto. A key feature of the program will be Michael’s short monologues telling of the political conflicts in London during the first half of the eighteenth century and how the musical rivalries reflected important political rivalries. Through these stories\, and through performing the related music\, we hope to capture and relay the sense of importance and authority that music had in eighteenth-century London. \nHandel “Se in fiorito” – Voice\, violin\, cello\, b.c.\nBononcini “Affetto\, gioia e riso” – Voice\, Violin\, b.c.\nHandel – Violin Sonata tbd\nAriosti: “Han posto” – Voice\, violin\, continuo\nHaym: “Sussurrando” – Voice\, continuo\nHaym: Trio Sonata\nPorpora: “Bella Diva” – voice\, cello\, continuo\nArne: “O too lovely” – voice\, violin\, cello\, b.c.\nPepusch/Arne tbd – voice\, b.c.\nDall’abaco: Cello Sonata in A+ – cello\nSmith: “Flower of this purple dye” – voice\, b.c.\nHandel: “On the valleys” – voice\, violin\, cello\, b.c.
