The app was launched at Art <\/span>Gen\u00e8ve in late January.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les nouvelles:<\/strong> At Geneva\u2019s illustrious Art Gen\u00e8ve festival, the Orchestre de la Suisse-Romande recently launched the first VR app dedicated to live orchestral performance. The app, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osr.ch\/en\/virtual-hall\/virtual-hall\">Virtual Hall\u00ae<\/a>, was developed by the company Cybel\u2019Art and allows the user to feel as if they were onstage with the orchestra. Developers used seven cameras to simultaneously record 360 degrees around the orchestra. Users have the option of switching their perspective between the vantage of different members of the orchestra and conductor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un peu plus\u2026:<\/strong> While Virtual Hall\u00ae is the first app for classical music VR, other orchestras have played with the idea before. In 2024, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/princeton-university-mahler-chamber-orchestra-virtual-reality-classical-concert-the-pulse\/\">created virtual reality experiences<\/a> for audience members. Operas have created<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2019\/07\/09\/major-chords-exploring-an-immersive-future-in-classical-music\/\"> mixed reality experiences<\/a> and governments have invested hugely in developing artistic VR experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Developers of Virtual Hall\u00ae aimed to remove traditional impediments to accessing live classical music. These include geographic, financial, physical, and mental health barriers.
