On November 27th, Pablo Larra\u00edn\u2019s new movie Maria starring Angelina Jolie was released in theatres. The Hollywood superstar took voice lessons and learned Callas\u2019 signature arias when preparing for the role.<\/p>\n

Driving the news:<\/strong> Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie made news this week when she visited New York\u2019s Metropolitan Opera<\/a>. Jolie\u2019s visit was part of the press tour for her role as Maria Callas in Pablo Larra\u00edn\u2019s eponymous new film<\/a>, which was released in theatres November 27th and comes to Netflix on December 11th. Accompanied by New York Times writer Javier C. Hern\u00e1ndez as well as Pablo Larra\u00edn, Jolie attended a performance of Puccini\u2019s \u201cTosca\u201d starring Lise Davidsen.<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes:<\/strong> In preparing for her role as the 20th-century\u2019s great opera diva, Angelina Jolie took voice lessons<\/a> and learned Callas\u2019 signature arias<\/a> by Donizetti, Bellini and Puccini. The Academy-Award-winning actress reportedly identified with Callas\u2019 loneliness and vulnerability due to the ongoing scrutiny of her personal life.<\/p>\n
